Orr Stakes Form Guide and Odds Comparison back Black Caviar to Storm Southern Speed

With a victory in the C F Orr Stakes, the world’s highest rated sprinter Black Caviar would tie the consecutive win streak achieved by legendary Australian Hall of Fame thoroughbred Ajax, and surpass the modern era Australasia record of Seventeen straight wins from the start of a career accomplished by Aussie born Hong Kong champ Silent Witness.

Leaving her one shy of the nineteen consecutive victories from a start of a career achieved by US racing legend Zenyatta, a modern day feat once considered unbeatable, much like super sprinter Black Caviar.

Orr Stakes

The 2012 Orr Stakes, to be held at Caulfield as race six, jumps off Saturday the 11th of February at 3:50pm Sydney time (4:50am Saturday GMT, 11:50pm Friday USEST).

The Orr Stakes, a 1400 metre Group One weight-for-age event open to thoroughbreds of any age and gender that offers prize money totaling $400,000, is also key in that it will be the first time in her career Black Caviar steps up to a distance over 1200 metres.

An increase in distance aimed to help Black Caviar prepare for an assault on the prestigious English Royal Ascot in June, where she would likely contest the $600,000 Golden Jubilee Stakes on the 23rd of June.

Orr Stakes Odds

Black Caviar is the dominant Orr Stakes odds favourite, priced to win in the $1.05-$1.07 range, which reflects that the odds makers believe she has a 95% chance of taking home the first prize.

Next up is the Leon Macdonald & Andrew Gluyas trained Southern Speed, winner of the $3million 2011 Cox Plate, priced in the $15.00-$21.00 range, followed by the Neville Parnham trained Playing God, winner of the 2011 Group 1 Kingston Town Classic, with win odds in the $51.00 and up range.

The $13.95 difference between Black Caviar and place favourite Southern Speed represents the largest odds difference in the history of the long running Orr Stakes, a fact even more amazing when you consider Southern Speed's form.
