Apple iPhones Developer Thrown Out

E-mail Print PDF

42 of the top 50 books by revenue. iPhone developer Thuat Nguyen was that successful over the July 4th holiday weekend and that success caused a few alarm bells to ring in the iTunes office. While Nguyen’s revenue was making rapid gains, some users were reporting to Apple that their accounts had been hacked into and used to make purchases in the App store.

After investigation, Apple announced that Thuat Nguyen and his apps were banned from the Apps Store “for violating the developer Program License Agreement, including fraudulent purchases."

Developer Nguyen had hacked into other users’ accounts to purchase his own apps.
Apple have followed up the ban by assuring users that the iTunes servers were at no time compromised, with just 400 of the 150 million iTunes users, or .0003 percent, being affected. To stem off other possible rumors and grumblings, Apple has also pointed out that no developer ever has access to customer data when an app is downloaded.

However, iTunes accounts are under organized attack from some Chinese based groups, according to AppleInsider. Credit card information has been stolen and sold off,  then used to make purchases. The thieves have continue to make purchases until the credit cards have been cancelled.

Apple is responding by changing how users make purchases through the iTunes store. The security code on the back of cards will now be asked for more often and always when users access the iTunes account from a different computer.

In light of the developer being banned, Apple recommends that users keep a close watch on their credit card statements and alert the relevant credit provider if there is evidence of unlawful use. Apple’s Support web site also recommends that iTunes users immediately update their passwords.
