She became one of the most famous stories in X-Factor history and still Gamu Nhengu continues to grab the headlines for all the wrong reasons as she and her family are now facing deportation from their home in Scotland back to their native homeland of Zimbabwe.
Gamu first hit the headlines when X-Factor judge Cheryl Cole failed to put the hugely popular singer through to the live part of the show, then Gamu and her family were ordered to leave the UK after a Visa application by her mother was turned down.
After the initial Home Office ruling Gamu Nhengu was hopeful that a new application to the Home Office back in November would see her family being permitted to remain in Clackmannanshire in Scotland but today it was announced that the Home Office had once again rejected the application.
A lawyer for the family said that the latest decision had come as a “disappointment” to the family who were now actively planning to lodge an appeal to be able to stay in the UK where they have lived for the past six years according to reports.
A statement from the family lawyer, Frances Farrell, said: “The decision will be vociferously challenged before an independent tribunal. No steps can be taken to remove our clients during the appeal process.”
A spokesman from the UK Border Agency told press: “The applications made by Ms Ngazana and her family have been reconsidered in line with our immigration rules.
“Ms Ngazana's application was refused as it did not meet the conditions for approval. Her family, who has applied as her dependants, were therefore also refused. We will be investigating how the decision became public before Ms Ngazana was informed.”
